Broadband
Internet services in Australia are rapidly expanding. ADSL and
cable broadband offerings are now more affordable to the home
consumer, but choosing the best plan and service provider can
be difficult.
We
strongly recommend that you compare the Internet broadband
offerings from not only Telstra, Optus, Ozemail and Primus,
but also from some of the lesser known names such as Internode and iinet ,
who often give you more features and capacity for your broadband
dollar. When comparing plans, check to see if there are setup
fees, download limits and excess charges, and whether the provider
charges for upload traffic as well as downloads. Make sure
you understand their contract terms as well, since you could
be locked into a long term plan with costly cancellation penalties
should you wish to change to a more attractive broadband offering
from another Internet Service provider at a later date.
You also need to check that you are located in an area that can be connected to the broadband network. There are distance limits between your location and the local exchange beyond which ADSL will not operate. For cable access, even though there may be cable in your street, you may not be able to use it for broadband if you live in a multi-dwelling building, dependent on the cable provider's policy. |
